Use Case: Satisfy data requests by being privacy compliant
Easily respond to data requests from patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers while being privacy compliant
ShareMedix helps you adjust the anonymization to uncover the relevant information while protecting the privacy of all other individuals present e.g. on videos.
Many hospitals and medical facilities face issues connected with data requests from patients about their own data. The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) regulation, under Article 15 gives individuals the right to request a copy of any of their personal data which are being processed by the controller, including also data collected by medical facilities, such as medical documentation, medical images or even monitoring videos.
In many countries the data requests might come from different institutions such as health funds, health insurances or even police, which might request the data to e.g. reimburse the costs or investigate the monitoring videos connected with committing a crime.
The frequent issue connected with satisfying such data requests is the fact that the data don’t include only information of one person, but also many other people, who didn’t agree to send their data to the person or institution behind the request.

Let’s see three examples of real-life situations for data requests and solutions to problems in this area:
Situation 1: A patient requests access to a monitoring video, on which there are also other patients and medical personnel present. The medical facility hasn’t collected any approvals from the third persons to provide their data to the patient filing the request.
Solution: ShareMedix makes it easy to automatically anonymize the videos from surveillance cameras. The users of the platform have the possibility to easily remove the anonymization for the patient requesting the recording, while keeping all other patients and medical personnel anonymized.
Situation 2: A medical insurance institution requests the data from a clinic for the purpose of reimbursement of costs. The documentation includes personal information of the patients, which is not needed for the purpose of processing.
Solution: The clinic can make use of ShareMedix in order to automate the process of the anonymization of medical documentation. This way it can provide the institution all needed information without sending over the personal data of the patients.
Situation 3: The police requests a video recording from surveillance cameras in order to check a security incident. According to the GDPR regulations, it’s important to provide the least needed amount of personal information for the given purpose.
Solution: ShareMedix enables quick anonymization of the persons not relevant. Using the video editing option it is possible to keep the relevant data visible/recognizable while automatically masking personal information of all other people whose data are not needed for the purpose of the investigation.
Benefits of using ShareMedix:
• Possibility to satisfy the data requests from patients and institutions while complying with privacy regulations.
• No need to manually anonymize data, such as medical documentation or images, resulting in saved time and money.
• Intuitive user interface of the solution and possibility to quickly conduct manual adaptation in the data.
• Possibility to share the requested data with person or institution making the request in an easy and secure manner.
